JESUS WAS A TROUBLE MAKER
Mat 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Mat 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Mat 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
Jesus was a trouble maker, an agitator. He stirred things up everywhere He went. Disturbing the peace was just as much a part of His divine mission as dying on a Cross. From the instant His human body was conceived in the womb of a virgin girl, until His final flight from the Mount of Olives after the Resurrection, Christ’s appearance created an upheaval.
Didn’t Isaiah prophesy that Jesus, the Savior, would be “The Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6-7)? Didn’t he prophesy that “…Of the increase of His government and PEACE there shall be no end…”? Was the prophet Isaiah wrong? Did Jesus not get the memo?
Why would He assault the inhabitants of Earth, wielding a sword and driving away what little peace a struggling family might have? Why would He impose upon fishermen, just trying to make a living, and command them to leave their livelihood and follow Him? Weren’t they just minding their own business, trying to catch a few fish and provide for their family?
The Lord’s very presence upset the balance of power in every town, village and hamlet He set foot in. The sick wanted His healing touch, the spiritual wanted to sit at His feet and learn and the hungry wanted to eat at His table of plenty. Government officials wanted Him silenced…Jewish Priests wanted Him dead.
His earthly arrival set in motion a cavalcade of cataclysmic events that would astonish mankind and turn the spirit world upside down. A world without God cannot be at peace. At best, men can only participate in a temporary truce with the Devil. After all, why should he be at war with souls he has already enslaved?
Christ came into a world overrun by maniacal megalomaniacs, possessed by demonic spirits and saturated with sinful desires. Demons would beg Him to leave them alone. Blind men would beg Him to come closer. Powerful leaders would put a bounty on His life. One of His own would take the money and run.
Men had a tenuous Satanic truce that had the appearance of peace and unity. But peace is a benefit provided by the Prince of Peace, not the Devil. The world might have enjoyed a semblance of unity, but it certainly had no harmony....the prince of "ultimate peace" disrupted their human alliances and allegiances and brought them into a place of such harmony that some sold everything they had and put it into a common treasury so that all of their brethren could benefit from their blessing. This "communistic" form of self-government was not what God wanted for them. However, it demonstrated how "Harmonious" their complete submission to God had made them all. The poor, the wealthy, the aristocrat and pauper, the educated and the ignorant all came together in oneness and harmony in the name of Jesus Christ. He disrupted their concepts of peace and unity. He revealed to them the harmony that can only be found in becoming a part of the Body of Christ.
Jesus came to sever the unholy union of Man and Satan. He came to call a people, a church out of darkness and into the light:
2 Cor 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
1 Pet 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
The world has been so long exposed to sin that sinners can rarely determine what is sin and what is not. Nowadays right is wrong and wrong is right. Holy living is belittled and unholy living is lauded. A Madonna can stand on a stage in front of 50,000 people with her underwear on the outside and the world calls her a free spirit, ahead of her time. A Christian can dress modestly, in clothes that are not revealing, and she is called frumpy and not is step with the times.
Jesus came to point out these absurdities. He came to tell men that they had it backwards…That Holiness and modesty are not frumpy and out of step…That holiness and modesty and purity and moral character are not dated relics of a prudish past.
Jesus came, wielding a SWORD OF SEPARATION to DIVIDE the HOLY from the UN-HOLY, The RIGHT from the WRONG, the SAINT from the SINNER, the Things of God from the Things of Satan and the World. Only those who live a life of separation, in holy oneness with the Spirit of God, can be in total harmony with their fellow Christians. Jesus was a trouble maker who was never satisfied with peaceful coexistence with Satan.
